Custom Label Projects We Love

April 29, 2011 by Jenny Walters 1 Comment

Today, we thought we would just share with you some of the cool projects and ideas we’ve seen around the web lately, using custom labels. There are some really cute ideas here, so be prepared to be inspired about your next wedding or party project involving personalized labels!

This first ideas comes from the Room for Dessert blog. They simply took brightly colored soda pop in bottles and attached their own custom labels for each guest at the wedding. The bottles serve not only as a fun favor, or sweet treat to sip on, but also as the guests’ seat assignments. Cute and useful – we love it!

The next project are some adorable custom beer labels for a wedding that we saw on Green Wedding Shoes – we love the playful way they worded the names of their “personalized” beer. Its also a great and stylish idea to make a few different bottle labels that are all in the same color scheme and style – to add some variation to your bottles – plus, its more fun than making just one label. Till Death do Us Porter and Happily Ever Amber? Does it get sweeter than that?!

Custom Beer Labels for a Wedding

We’d never even thought about putting labels on a bottle of bubbles until we saw these over on Martha Stewart’s website, but isn’t this a fantastic idea for a kids’ birthday party?

Wedding Paper Divas gave us this sweet idea for favors at a wedding, shower or party. Even if you didn’t have a wedding or party coming up, this is a cool idea if you have a “world famous” cookie, brownie or jam recipe. Share with your friends and family as gifts and a personalized label to make it look all the more professional.

DIY Chalkboard Wine Bottle Project

April 26, 2011 by Jenny Walters 4 Comments

We are continually amazed and impressed by what people are able to create out of old wine bottles. We’ve seen so many awesome projects that you can make yourself, at home, with left-over bottles of wine and today’s find is one of our favorites of all time. This one, we might actually try for ourselves – it would look fantastic in your kitchen or wherever you choose to display it.

All you need is this: and empty wine bottle and a can of Chalk Board paint – which is easy to find at any local hardware or craft store. After you remove the label, all you have to do is cover the bottle in two coats of the paint and wait for it to dry.

When it’s finally dry, you can create fun results like these:

All you need is a creative idea and a piece of chalk. Wouldn’t these make great decorations on tables at your wedding? You could write the table numbers on them in chalk!

DIY Wine Bottle Centerpieces

April 15, 2011 by Jenny Walters 3 Comments

With all of the gray skies here in Seattle recently, we have been craving bright pops of color in our lives – just so we can feel like it really is spring around here. These DIY wine bottle centerpieces that we encountered over on the Ruffled blog, are just the ticket we’ve been looking for. Perfect for a wedding or party, these colorful bottles are a little pop-art and a lot of fun. What a perfect way to brighten up your table-scape and display candles or flowers.

Submitted by one of Ruffled blog’s readers, this is a great project for someone with lots of left over wine bottles…like us! Check out all the details and directions, below:

What You’ll Need:

– wine bottles
– liquid soap
– alcohol swabs, rubbing alcohol, Goo Gone and/or hard dish brush
-spray paint
– quick drying high gloss white spray paint or white primer spray paint
– quick drying high gloss spray in whatever colors you desire
– old sheet, drop cloth or any sort of covering for the surface you will be painting on

Instructions:

Step 1: Submerge wine bottles in warm soapy water until labels easily come off (this can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes).

Step 2: If you are having difficulty removing labels, try holding the bottles under warm water and use a hard dish brush to scrub off excess label/glue. I also find using alcohol or Goo Gone can help with this as well.

Step 3: Make sure soapy water is rinsed out of bottles and let bottles dry.

Step 4: Cover hard surface outside (away from anything you might damage with spray paint) and place bottles on the surface. Spray one thin, even coat of white spray paint or primer on each bottle (note, this does not have to be perfect). Make sure you are not holding the can too close to the bottle or the paint will get on too thick and start to drip. Let dry for about 15 minutes, then you can test the bottles by touching them lightly; if the paint is sticky they need more time to dry.

Step 5: Repeat this step about three more times with the colors you choose. If you are having trouble getting the paint on evenly, put your finger into the bottle opening to pick it up so you can see the bottle at a better angle and spray where needed. Because you are doing several coats, it will not be completely even until your final coat. If you need to do more than three or four coats, that is fine, just make sure they are not too thick.

Step 6: Pick up bottle and spray around the bottom edge so no glass is showing through. Then do a quick spray at the very top of the bottle. Leave bottles out to dry in a shaded place.

Fun and Easy Easter Gift Idea

April 8, 2011 by Jenny Walters Leave a Comment

DIY Homemade Easter Gift, Bunny Brownies

Easter is quickly approaching – have you thought about what you’re going to do to celebrate this year? We’ve been busy looking for Easter inspiration this week – party, favor, invitation and decoration ideas, and then we found these Bunny Brownies over at the No Fuss Fabulous blog.

These would make a fabulous personalized gift or party favor for your Easter celebration this year, and they’re so adorable, we’re pretty sure you’re guests would love them – and the thought and work you put into making them. Check out the recipe below, find a cute jar to hold all the ingredients, and then all you have to do is get some custom labels (we know a little bit about that, just sayin’) – change the name, add your name, whatever you can think of to make it personal and custom. Happy Easter!

BUNNY BROWNIES:

Ingredients and Directions:
1. Reduce 1 sleeve graham crackers to crumbs.
2. Layer 2/3 of the crumbs in a 1 qt jar.
3. Place 8 marshmallow bunny peeps standing up, facing out around the inside of the jar.
4. Press them up against the glass, but don’t squash them.
5. Carefully spoon remaining crumbs in the center of the jar to support the bunnies, pressing down to keep it snug.
6. On top of this pour 1-1/4 cup Easter M&M’s.
7. Spoon 1/3 cup brown sugar into center of M&M’s, gently pressing with a spoon.

Note from No Fuss Fabulous: I nixed the direction and instead I placed my M&M’s on the bottom as I had seen other women do in the past. I also used Wilton’s decorator disposable bags to hold my graham cracker crumbs in. The triangle shape of the decorator bag makes it easy to fold over even a wide mouth mason jar keeping the crumbs from ruining your perfect layered look. The decorator bag is also nice to use because it keeps the bulk of the graham cracker ingredients at the top of the jar, again giving it a nice layered look.

1. Empty the jar contents into a bowl. Snip the bunnies into bits with kitchen sheers or cut up with a knife. Return the bunny bits to the mixture. Mix well.
2. Melt 1/2 cup butter; add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour this over the dry ingredients, mixing well. Pat into a greased 9″ square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes. Cool and cut into bars.
(Makes 9 to 12 bars.)
*Option – leave bunnies whole; combine remaining ingredients and place the bunnies on top; then bake as directed.

Make Your Label and Check It Twice!

April 19, 2010 by Jenny Walters Leave a Comment

[singlepic id=224 w=240 h=240 float=center]

You’ve found the perfect label.  Your heart speeds up a bit, your fingers fly over the keyboard, and before you know it you’ve designed a custom label that is everything you want it to be and more.  Woo hoo!  Just hit Checkout and go, right?

Hold on there a minute.  Did you remember to proofread your label?

Much like Santa Claus with his list, it’s important to check your label over at least twice to make sure that names are spelled correctly, the dates are right, etc.  Why?  Because we won’t!

As much as we’d love to be psychic, we have no way of knowing whether the names, places, dates, or other information we see on your label are correct.  If you type it in wrong, we will print it wrong!  We’d hate for that to happen, so make sure you double-check your work before checking out.

If you ever have questions about etiquette (whose initial comes first in a monogram anyway?!) or aesthetics (what looks better, writing out the date or using numbers?) contact us.  We’re happy to work with you to make sure your label looks perfect!  Just remember, we won’t proofread it for you once you’ve submitted your order.  Make sure it’s right before you check out!
