Federal Regulations for Bottled Water
Bottled water is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration which has put in place a standard of quality and identity. Bottled water is regulated in the same way as food that enters the marketplace. The content of allowable organics, contaminants, and substances in bottled water must meet strict guidelines. In addition, the definition of each type of bottled water is strictly defined by the FDA in its published regulations "Specific Standardized Beverages (Sec. 165.110 Bottled Water)."
